9am AK/10am PT/11am MT/12pm CT/1pm ET

The Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI), along with our training and technical assistance partners – the Tribal Judicial Institute (TJI), and the National American Indian Court Judges Association (NAICJA) present an upcoming webinar: Criminal Sentencing in Tribal Courts and Post-Sentencing Options

Tribal courts are uniquely positioned to balance accountability, healing, and justice within their communities. This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of sentencing frameworks available under Tribal law—both before and after the enactment of the Tribal Law and Order Act (TLOA). Participants will examine key concepts such as executed versus suspended sentences, sentence modifications, commutations, pardons, expungements, and other post-conviction options that honor Tribal values while addressing public safety and resource limitations. The session will also highlight innovative sentencing alternatives and address how sentencing flexibility can reduce over-incarceration and support rehabilitation, victim restoration, and community wellness.

Who Should Attend:

FY23 and FY24 Coordinated Tribal Assistance (CTAS) Purpose Area #3 Tribal Justice System Grantees and legal professionals, tribal judges, tribal court personnel, advocates and anyone interested in learning more about Tribal criminal sentencing and post-sentencing options.
