Traditional Treatment Concepts in Working with Native American Clients
Webinar Description: Historical Trauma has left Native Americans with generations of complex and detrimental health, mental health and social issues. Traditional Tribal ways are sometimes used as an adjunct to the western substance use disorder treatment practices utilized, because they may be not considered as evidence based. This webinar will provide a brief overview of historical trauma and will focus on what traditional treatment practices are, the differences between standard substance use disorder treatment, and how they can work collaboratively.
Presenters:
- Durand Bear Medicine, Consultant, Tribal Law and Policy Institute

Guiding Principles and Recommendations for Trauma-Responsive Treatment Courts
Webinar Description: Policy Research Associates (PRA) and All Rise have for the past two years engaged in several strategies to adapt the six key principles and 10 implementation domains of SAMHSA’s Concept of Trauma and Guidance for a Trauma-Informed Approach for application in treatment courts. Core to this process was a role-based expert panel meeting, two interactive sessions at the 2023 All Rise Conference, professional substantive editing by a key trauma-informed professional writer, and recurrent feedback from experts in the field. As a result of this process, PRA and All Rise created guidance and recommendations for the field in a soon to be released publication. Highlights and core recommendations from this forthcoming publication will be presented during this presentation, along with examples of how courts have approached implementation.
